KARACHI, Dec 28: A young boy was killed by fleeing cellphone snatchers in Nusrat Bhutto Colony, in Sector D-3 of North Karachi, late on Wednesday night.

Police said that a gang of four bandits intercepted one, Shoaib, and deprived him of his cellphone in the area. On his hue and cry, some people around chased the bandits into Nusrat Bhutto Colony and tried to catch them. The fleeing bandits opened fire at the crowd but a bullet hit a nine-year-old boy, Anas, who was accompanying his aunty. The bandit managed to escape.

The injured boy was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died shortly afterwards.

In another incident, unknown assailants shot dead a security guard in New Karachi’s Sector 11-L.

Police said Lal Khan was on duty to guard a row of houses in Street L when two armed men attacked him and tried to snatch his gun. He offered resistance during which the armed men opened fire and took away the weapon.

The injured guard was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
