HARIPUR, Oct 24: A young man was killed and three people, including two women, were injured when an enraged man opened fire on members of his family following a petty dispute in Noorpur Paswal village, 42km from here, on the eve of Eid on Sunday.

The Saddar police quoted one of those injured, Matloob, as saying that their nephew Naveed wanted to lay a drain in the courtyard of their extended family’s common house. Naveed’s uncle Farooq opposed the idea which led to an altercation between them.

Matloob said that the row was settled but after some time, Farooq attacked Naveed and other family members with a 12-bore shot gun, seriously injuring four of them.

Those injured were taken to the District Headquarter Hospital Haripur where Naveed died. Matloob, his wife Sajida Bibi and their daughter Shamshad Bibi were referred to the Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad due to their serious condition.

Police claim that they have arrested Naveed.

GAS LINE BLAST: A grocery shop was damaged and a strip of footpath uprooted when a gas pipeline exploded on the Grand Trunk road here on Monday, witnesses said.

However no loss of life or injury to any one was reported.

Witnesses said that the service line of a juice shop passing under the footpath burst with an explosion, damaging a grocery shop and uprooting about a 100-meter strip of the footpath.

“When I opened the shop, I found grocery items worth thousands of rupees littered on the ground and floor of my shop uprooted” said Sajjad, the owner of the grocery shop.

The gas company officials and workers quickly reached the site of the explosion and snapped the supply to the area, which was later restored.
