KARACHI: 147 profiteers fined

KARACHI, Oct 23: The city government officials having magistrate powers imposed fines of Rs238,250 on 147 shopkeepers for overcharging, while no arrest was reported on Monday.

Out of 147 profiteers, 31 vegetable sellers were charged Rs17,650; 34 fruit sellers Rs23,500; 34 milk sellers Rs81,200; 19 meat sellers Rs18,200 and 23 shopkeepers Rs65,050; while six other profiteers were fined Rs32,650.

The magistrates imposed a total fine of Rs13,065,380 on 7,867 profiteers during the month of Ramazan. Out of 7,867 fined, 157 profiteers were jailed.—PPI
