KARACHI, Feb 14: Customs Airport Staff foiled an attempt to smuggle out foreign currency worth more than Rs3 million and arrested the currency smuggler.

Pursuing a tip-off, Pakistan Customs Drug Enforcement Cell staff intercepted a Pakistani passenger, Syed Adil Abbas, when he came there to board Emirates Flight EK-603 for Dubai.

A search led to the recovery of US$ 50,636 and Italian lira 7,000 besides a sizable amount of UAE dirhams, Qatari riyals, British pounds and Sinagaporean dollars. The seized currency equalled Rs3,042,400.

The Customs arrested the accused and registered a case against him under Customs Act, 1969. —APP
