WB to provide Rs7bn for Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA, Sept 28: The World Bank will provide a Rs7 billion package to make Gujranwala a ‘model city’ while Rs1.1 billion will be given to Wasa for completing potable water supply and sewerage schemes.

This was stated by District Coordination Officer Manzer Hayat while speaking at a meeting here on Thursday.

The DCO said that a plan had been chalked out to complete the construction work of city roads, drinking water supply and sewerage schemes through the World Bank package.

The Executive District Officer (Municipal), senior Wasa officers and other government functionaries also attended the meeting.

BUSTED: The CIA on Thursday claimed to have busted a notorious gang of bandits involved in looting several families in police uniforms and kidnapping some industrialists for ransom.

The police said that Additional IG Malik Muhammad Iqbal received information that some accused had rented a house in Khiali Shahpur and were looting influential families in police uniforms.

The Additional IG constituted a team who conducted a raid at the hideout of the accused and arrested them after a brief encounter.

Those arrested were identified as ringleader Asghar, Aslam, Akram and Amjad. Police also recovered Rs500,000 in cash, ornaments worth Rs400,000, two stolen cars, a motorcycle, three police uniforms, four mobile phones and half a dozen pistols from their possession.

The Additional IG announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for the raiding party.
