LARKANA, Sept 8: The department of education and the National Commission for Human Development on Friday jointly celebrated the World Literacy Day in Larkana and Qambar-Shahdadkot districts.

Larkana DCO Naseer Jamali led a walk which culminated at the press club.

The DCO said that about 70,000 children would be enrolled during the academic year in the district for which the NCHD and the education department had completed a survey.

The Qambar-Shahdadkot EDO (education) led a rally in Qambar town.

BADIN: A programme to mark the World Literacy Day was held at the office of the NCHD on Friday.

The speakers said that literacy was needed for every individual to eradicate poverty.

They said that education was also essential for environmental protection and social participation. They said that every man and woman needed to learn how to write and read.

JACOBABAD: A walk was held to create awareness among the people on the World Literacy Day on Friday.

The walk started from the Hamida High School and after passing through different roads of town reached the taluka municipal office.

Taluka Nazim Sajjad Jakhrani, NCHD general manager Munawar Mithani, district programme manager Kashif Qureshi and Karim Bux Abro spoke on the occasion.

DADU: A rally was held here on Friday to mark the World Literacy Day.

EDO (education) Rasool Bux Shah said that parents and social workers should cooperate with the education department in increasing the literacy rate in the far-flung areas.
