FATAL ACCIDENTS

FATAL ACCIDENTS: Heavy traffic, narrow single-lane roads and lack of safety measures have turned the roads across Balochistan — particularly the vital highways connecting Turbat with Quetta and Karachi — into death traps. Hundreds of precious lives have been lost as victims generally succumb to their injuries before reaching major city hospitals. As someone who has personally survived a horrific crash that claimed the life of a loved one, the pain of such tragedies is unbearable. The government and the National Highway Authority (NHA) must repair the roads, enforce speed limits, and establish emer-gency trauma centres to save innocent lives.

UNEMPLOYED NURSES: There is a growing injustice that is faced by qualified nurses in Pakistan, especially in Sindh. Despite holding professional degrees and valid licences, many registered nurses remain unemployed, while vacancies are routinely announced for dispensers and critical-care technicians. Recruitment practices at various hospitals and insti-tutions raise concerns about whether qualified nurses are receiving fair employ-ment opportunities as per their qualifications. When Pakistan is facing a shortage of nurses, there is no justification for the unemployment being faced by qualified nursing graduates. They deserve trans-parent recruitment policies and fair employment opportunities. The government must recognise their qualifications and utilise their professional skills.

FEE IN INSTALMENTS: Studying at the Government College University Lahore, a prestigious and historic university, is considered a privilege. However, students there are required to pay their entire semester fee in one go, which can be financially difficult for many families. The administration should consider introducing a two-phase semester fee payment system: one instalment before the midterm examinations and the other before the final examinations. This would make it easier for families to manage fee on time.
