KARACHI: A man was killed and four persons, including two children, were injured when an under-construction building collapsed and its debris fell on a shop near the Naya Nazimabad flyover on Manghopir Road on Thursday, officials said.

Rescue-1122 spokesperson Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan told Dawn that it was a ground-plus-one under-construction structure, with a confectionery shop on its ground floor. As the building’s structure had weakened, its front portion collapsed and debris fell on the shop, trapping five persons beneath it.

He said the shopkeeper, Abdul Bari, 42, was pulled out of the rubble and shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died.

Two children and two men who had gone there to buy food were also trapped but were rescued safely.

He said the children were in serious condition.
