BAJAUR: A man was killed in an explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED) in Barang tehsil of Bajaur district on Tuesday, police said.

Police officials said that the IED, planted along a pathway in the hilly locality of Asil Targao by unidentified miscreants, went off in the afternoon.

Mansoor Khan, the spokesperson for the district police in Khar, told Dawn that the blast, triggered with a remote control, left a resident, Waheed Khan, critically wounded, who died while being shifted to the Rural Health Centre, Barang.

He said that a team from the Barang police station rushed to the spot and launched a search operation.

The official said a probe had been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the blast and to identify those responsible for the explosion.

No one claimed responsibility for the explosion in Barang tehsil, which witnessed a terrorist attack on a police post on Thursday night, leaving a policeman martyred.
