KARACHI: A young man and a married woman were shot dead off Superhighway on Sunday in what police described as an act of killing in the name of so-called honour.

Police and rescue services officials said Mehar Ali, 23, and his friend, Jameela, wife of Ayub, 22, were gunned down inside their home in a katchi abadi in Faqeera Goth.

The SHO of the SITE Superhighway Industrial Area police station, Mohammed Nawaz, told Dawn that the double murder appeared to be an act of “honour killing”.

He said the police suspected involvement of the woman’s close relatives in the killings.

The couple originally hailed from Balochistan.

The bodies were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

A case has been registered against the woman’s family on the complaint of deceased Ali’s father under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the SITE-Superhighway police station.
