KARACHI: An engineer working with the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was shot dead in a suspected targeted attack in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Sunday afternoon, police and rescue services officials said.

Sharea Faisal SHO Anser Ahmed Butt said that Imtiaz Ahmed, 54, left his home in Block-13 to purchase bread when unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle targeted him and rode away.

He said three bullets hit a nearby parked car while one bullet hit him that proved fatal. He was shifted to a nearby private hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Later, the body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

The SHO ruled out robbery, saying the exact motive would be ascertained after investigation.

He said the deceased was originally from Lahore and that police had contacted his brother, who was on his way to Karachi. Formal proceedings to ascertain the motive and identify the killers would be initiated after his arrival, he added.

He said the deceased’s wife was currently in Germany to visit their daughter.
