BAHAWALPUR: Four wagons of the Yousafwala coal train derailed at the Rukanpur Railway Station near the Lodhran junction on Lodhran-Khanewal chord section early on Sunday morning.

As per details, the train was on its way to Sahiwal (Yousafwala) from Tharparkar and derailed while it was proceeding towards Khanewal via the chord railway section. No loss of life was reported but the railway track was blocked and railway traffic was diverted from the affected section.

According to railway sources, all up and down trains including Pakistan Business Express, Green Line and others, which normally passed through this chord section, were diverted to Multan from the Lodhran junction and were continuing their journey toward their respective destinations via Khanewal.

They further said that a relief train and other necessary equipment was being dispatched to the Rukanpur Railway Station to lift the derailed coaches.

According to a Pakistan Railways Multan Division spokesperson, initial probe suggested that a technical fault in one of the wagons caused the derailment, however, a detailed inquiry had been ordered to investigate the cause.

He further said that after timely repair measures, the track was cleared and traffic was restored. He said that train operations had resumed on the affected section of the track.
