KARACHI: Kashmir Black Day was observed across Sindh, including Karachi, on Tuesday, with rallies and demonstrations held to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir and reaffirm support for their right to self-determination.

A large rally, organised by the Commissioner Karachi, was taken out from Peoples Chowrangi to the Mausoleum

of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah to condemn the Indian occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and draw attention to the continued denial of the Kashmiri people’s right to decide their own future.

Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Amjad Hussain Azar, Sindh Minister for Labour and Human Resources Saeed Ghani, and Minister for Tourism and Culture Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah led the rally.

A large number of citizens, schoolchildren, government officials and people from different walks of life participated, carrying banners and placards and chanting slogans in support of Kashmir’s freedom struggle.

A minute of silence was observed to honour the people of Kashmir and express solidarity with their decades-long struggle against Indian rule.

Addressing the rally, GB Chief Minister Azar said Kashmir was an integral part of Pakistan and that the country’s national aspirations remained closely linked with the resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

He said the rally had been organised to mark October 27, 1947, when Indian troops entered Srinagar, an event Pakistan observes as the beginning of India’s occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.

The GB chief minister urged the international community to move beyond expressions of concern and ensure the implementation of relevant United Nations resolutions to secure a just and lasting settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Kashmir.

Sindh Labour Minister Ghani reiterated Pakistan’s support for the people of Kashmir, their struggle for freedom and their right to self-determination.

Special Assistant to the Sindh CM Syed Najmi Alam, deputy commissioners from all districts of Karachi and other government officials also attended the rally.

Also, the National Highways and Motorway Police and Karachi Police also organised rallies, ceremonies and awareness programmes to express solidarity with the people of India-held Jammu and Kashmir.

Black Day observed at universities across Sindh

Kashmir Black Day was also observed at several university campuses across the province, with a large number of students, teaching and non-teaching staff taking part.

The day marked 78 years of Indian occupation of Jammu and Kashmir, with programmes focusing on the struggle for freedom and the right to self-determination and Pakistan’s continued support for the people of Kashmir.

At Hamdard University, a one-minute silence was observed to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir and honour the victims of the decades-long conflict.

The two campuses of Dow University of Health Sciences saw solidarity walks by faculty members and students, who raised slogans in support of the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

At Jinnah Sindh Medical University, a digital poster competition, a documentary screening and a gathering were organised.

At Sindh Madressatul Islam University, Vice Chancellor Prof Mujeebuddin Sahrai Memon highlighted the significance of Kashmir Black Day and stressed the importance of educating younger generations about its historical background.

Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology also organised a rally to observe Black Day, drawing attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Kashmir.
