NORTH WAZIRISTAN: Gunmen targeted the vehicle of district police officer Sajjad Hussain on the Mirali Bypass on Sunday; however, he and members of his security squad remained unhurt, police officials said.

They said that the incident occurred in the afternoon, as a curfew was in force in the area.

Police said that the attackers targeted the vehicle carrying the district police chief, but no casualties were reported in the attack.

However, details regarding the identity of the attackers and the motive behind the attack were not immediately available.

The incident took place at a time when restrictions on public movement were in place in Mirali and its surrounding areas due to the prevailing security situation.

Security personnel had been deployed at various locations, while movement along the Mirali Bypass and adjoining roads remained restricted under the curfew.

Following the incident, security was further tightened in the area.

Police established checkpoints at important locations and launched a search operation to trace those involved in the attack.

Law enforcement agencies also initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The targeting of the district police chief’s vehicle despite the security restrictions has raised concerns about the security situation in the area.

Residents were advised to avoid unnecessary movement and follow the restrictions imposed by the authorities.
