KARACHI: The Action Committee of the Dow Medical College students last night announced its decision to call off its 14-day-old strike on Wednesday [Oct 10]. The announcement synchronised with … the Director-General of Health assuring the medicos that their “legitimate grievances would be examined and redressed with the least possible delay”. Complete strike was continued in the Dow Medical College in defiance of the Principal’s warning that the students abstaining from their classes and duties ... would run the risk of having their names struck off the college rolls.
The announcement of the Action Committee said that the two-week old strike had ended in “great victory for the students and had opened a new chapter in the history of the students movement in Karachi”.
Earlier, the Director-General of Health Col M Jaffar told a general body meeting of the striking medicos … that the Government was “most anxious to raise the standard of teaching in the college[”] and it was “actively making preparations for the posting of better and more teachers” there. — News agencies
