SARGODHA: Three cops, including an SHO, a sub-inspector and a police van driver, were injured after an alleged exchange of fire between police and armed robbers in the Kot Momin area of Sargodha.

According to police sources, a Kot Momin police team was responding to a robbery in which armed men had reportedly attacked an orchard. The armed men allegedly opened fire on the police van and injured SHO Ansar Abbas, Sub-Inspector Fayyaz Hussain Gondal and driver Liaqat Ali.

The injured personnel were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment and were later shifted to the Dr Faisal Masood Teaching Hospital, Sargodha.

Following the attack, police claimed to have launched a targeted search operation in the area resulting in the death of one of the suspects, identified as Anwar Ali, alias Munna after an encounter. Officials claimed that Munna was accidentally killed by the firing from his own fleeing accomplices. His body was shifted to the hospital for a postmortem examination.

Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Karim took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from Sargodha RPOSohail Akhtar Sukhera. The IGP directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical facilities for the wounded personnel and ordered a swift crackdown to arrest the remaining suspects.

RPO Sukhera visited the hospital to review the treatment being provided to the injured officials. Praising their bravery and high morale, the RPO stated that all resources would be deployed to bring the perpetrators to justice and maintain law and order.

A heavy police contingent was seen in the area searching for the remaining suspects.
