Man booked for ‘rape’ of relative woman

BAHAWALPUR:Gaggo Mandi police in Vehari district have registered a case against a man for allegedly raping a married woman multiple times, resulting in her becoming pregnant.

According to the police PRO, woman ‘Y’ complained that suspect ‘I’, a relative, had access to her house in the absence of her husband, who is in Istanbul earning a livelihood.

She alleged that the suspect sexually assaulted her repeatedly at her house and also made objectionable videos and pictures of her. He allegedly used the material to blackmail her and continued to rape her, as a result of which she is now pregnant.

She said during the last alleged assault, her uncle ‘A’ happened to arrive at the house. When he tried to overpower the suspect, the latter fled the scene after allegedly hurling threats at her.

The woman further alleged that the suspect, along with two unidentified accomplices, later abducted her at gunpoint, bundled her into a double-cabin pickup and forcibly took her to Lahore, where the suspect allegedly continued to rape her.

She claimed that she managed to escape from the suspects and approached the police, seeking DNA and medical tests to establish the alleged sexual assaults.

The police spokesman told Dawn that a first information report had been registered under Sections 376 and 496-A of the Pakistan Penal Code against three suspects. He said the victim had been referred to a hospital for medical examination, while police teams were making efforts to trace and arrest the suspects.

SUICIDE: A man allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house in Khalid Town near Satellite Town, Bahawalpur, on Monday.

Rescue 1122 personnel and Baghdadul Jadid police reached the scene after receiving emergency calls and found Muhammad Arshad (44) dead.

Rescue officials suspected that he might have opted for suicide over some domestic dispute, while police said the incident required a thorough investigation.

Police shifted the body to Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) for a postmortem examination.

GANGS BUSTED: Lodhran police claim to have busted eight burglary gangs, arresting 24 members and recovering stolen and snatched valuables and other articles worth Rs6.4 million.

According to a press release, DPO Beenish Fatimah said police arrested a total of 820 suspects involved in 913 cases during September.

She also claimed that the crime rate in the district had declined last month compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.
