GUJRAT: A Greece-returned man was allegedly tortured to death by a group of locals in Kham Khurd locality of Kuthiala Sheikhan police precincts of Mandi Bahauddin on Monday.

Reports said that Iftikhar Ahmed had returned to the village to attend a wedding of a close relative and went to a barber shop. However, when he was on his way back home, some locals intercepted him and subjected him to severe physical torture.

Later, he was shifted to the hospital by his relatives, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The family of the deceased alleged that the suspects had an altercation with Iftikhar in Greece and they nurtured a grudge, and upon his arrival the suspects allegedly murdered him.

Police also reached the spot and collected evidence, while a case had not been lodged yet. The deceased’s family sources said that he was the lone brother of four sisters and was also married.

They said he was survived by a widow and three children. The deceased had recently returned home from Greece after around four years, they added. The victim’s autopsy was conducted at the Mandi Bahauddin DHQ Hospital.

The victim’s heirs lodged a strong protest at the hospital against the brutal murder and urged the Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to take notice of the incident and hand over the investigation to the Crime Control Department (CCD).
