13 held for illegal bird hunting

LAHORE: Wildlife Rangers teams from districts of Okara, Khanewal, Rajanpur, Jhang and Chakwal claimed to have arrested 13 suspects allegedly for illegal hunting of ducks, falcons, quails and wild hares, recovering seven netting gears and several decoys from them.

A fine of Rs325,000 was imposed on 11 of the suspects, while an FIR was registered against two others at the local police station.

A team led by Chakwal Assistant Chief Wildlife Rangers Mirza Abid arrested five suspects involved in illegal netting of quails and imposed a fine of Rs115,000 on them.

Chakwal Wildlife Rangers arrested three suspects red-handed, allegedly hunting wild hares with guns and imposed a fine of Rs110,000 on them. A team led by Jhang Assistant Chief Wildlife Ranger Saleem Sargana arrested a suspect involved in illegal netting of falcons and imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on him.

Similarly, Okara Assistant Chief Wildlife Ranger Sarfraz Hussain, along with his team arrested two suspects engaged in illegal hunting of falcons. The team arrested another suspect for netting quails, seizing the gear. A fine of Rs30,000 was imposed on him.

In two operations, Rajanpur Assistant Chief Wildlife Ranger Saima Mohsin, along with her team, arrested a suspect for hunting ducks illegally.

Similarly, a Khanewal team seized a quail netting gear from a suspect.
