KARACHI: The provincial health department confirmed on Tuesday another mpox case, raising the tally for the infectious disease to 93 in the province.

Sources said the latest victim is a 50-year-old man from Qazi Ahmed, Nawabshah. He is currently under treatment at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital & Research Centre.

“He is referred to us by the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. His condition is not good due to chronic kidney disease,” a senior doctor at the hospital said, adding that he had been on dialysis.

Data released by Provincial Disease Surveillance and Response Unit showed that 11 deaths have been reported so far this year.

It showed Karachi is the most mpox-affected city with 26 cases followed by 22 in Khairpur and nine in Sukkur.

The monthly trend showed that April saw the largest number of cases (31) this year followed by September (20) and August (17).

Seventy cases involved male patients and the most affected age-group was 30-39 years.

“The health department is monitoring the situation and urges people to adopt precautionary measures. They should report immediately to a hospital in case symptoms appear,” said a statement.
