HYDERABAD: Police exhumed the body of a factory worker from a house in the Tando Yusuf area on Tuesday, 13 days after he was allegedly murdered by a colleague and buried there.

The victim was identified as Ashiq Solangi, a resident of Mehar in Dadu district, who was in his late 20s. He worked at a factory within the limits of the Tando Yusuf police station.

After Solangi went missing on Sept 22, his brother, Manzoor Solangi, told police he had been kidnapped. Hyderabad SSP Shahzeb Chachar formed a team comprising Tando Yusuf SHO Mazhar Iqbal and Market SHO Naik M Khoso.

Khoso said that, acting on details provided by the brother, police traced the mobile phone used to send ransom messages and detained Qadir Ali, son of Mushtaq Ahmed Rajput, a resident of Mehrabpur in Naushahro Feroze district. The phone locations of the victim and the suspect were found to be the same.

Qadir, who worked at the same factory, allegedly confessed to police that he had murdered Solangi. Khoso said Qadir told police that Solangi had mentioned owning a few acres of land and some buffaloes, which made him greedy, so he kidnapped him to demand a ransom.

Khoso, quoting the suspect, said Qadir took Solangi to his house, drugged him with sleeping pills and bound his hands and legs with a chain. The next day, fearing Solangi would scream after he regained consciousness, Qadir allegedly suffocated him with a pillow. Solangi died instantly. Qadir then had workers dig a four-foot-deep pit in which the body was buried.

A medical board headed by police surgeon Dr Wasim Khan was formed on Monday for the exhumation. Its other members were pathologist Dr Khalid Yusuf, forensic expert Dr Abdul Samad Memon and Tahir Qureshi, assistant medical superintendent (medico legal) at Liaquat University Hospital. Dr Wasim said Solangi’s body was found chained and was not completely decomposed. Police have obtained the suspect’s remand.
