Services exports surge 29pc

ISLAMABAD: Services exports grew by a robust 28.89 per cent year on year in the first two months of 2026-27, largely driven by higher earnings from information technology.

According to official data compiled by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), services exports have continued to expand, maintaining uninterrupted growth since the start of FY27, in contrast to mixed trends in goods shipments.

In absolute terms, services exports totalled $1.81 billion in July-August FY27, up from $1.41bn in the corresponding months of last year. In August, services exports rose 28.97pc to $873.01 million, from $676.91m in the corresponding month last year. Telecomm­unications, computer and information services have driven growth since the beginning of the fiscal year.

According to data compiled by the State Bank of Pakistan, exports of telecommunications, computer and information services grew 17.36pc to $811m in 2MFY27 from $691m a year ago.

Exports of other business services surged 38.62pc to $420m in 2MFY27, from $303m in the same period last year. Similarly, exports of transport services increased by 35.87pc to $178m from $131m a year earlier.

However, exports of travel services surged 146.66pc to $222m from $90m in 2MFY26.

At the same time, services imports rose 9.77pc to $2.37bn in 2MFY27, from $2.16bn in the corresponding period last year. In August, services imports rose 2.53pc to $1.15bn, from $1.13bn a year ago.
