GWADAR: The Balochistan government has announced prioritised resources for Gwadar’s infrastructure, focusing on urban rehabilitation, water supply, sports and education during a high-level Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) review meeting.

The meeting, chaired by Provincial Planning and Development Minister Mir Zahoor Buledi, reviewed ongoing and completed development projects, the water supply situation in the city, funding requirements for future development schemes, administrative matters, and the performance and improvement of the GDA School.

The meeting was attended by MPAs Maulana Hidayatur Rehman, Syed Zafar Ali Agha and Engineer Abdul Majeed Badini, along with GDA Director General Mujeebur Rehman Qambrani, Chief Engineer Haji Syed Muhammad and other concerned officials.

During the briefing, the GDA director general gave a detailed presentation on the authority’s development initiatives, particularly ongoing and completed works under the Old Town Rehabilitation Project, improvements in the water distribution system, municipal services and the overall performance of the authority.

The meeting was informed that the Old Town Rehabilitation Project was a comprehensive master plan aimed at urban development, provision of basic civic amenities and preservation of Gwadar’s historical and cultural heritage. Under the project, construction, expansion, rehabilitation and beautification of various city roads, streets, bazaars, educational institutions, graveyards, Eidgahs and traffic intersections have been carried out, significantly improving the urban environment, traffic flow and commercial activities.

The DG GDA said the authority had planted more than 5,000 trees across the city and was responsible for the operation and maintenance of various urban infrastructure facilities. These included approximately 31km of sewage drains, 23km of rainwater drainage channels, three sports stadiums, three public parks, more than 250km of roads, the GDA School, GDA Hospital and Fish Landing Jetty. Municipal services were also continuously managing sanitation and maintenance of city avenues, beaches and public spaces.
