MANSEHRA: Clerics from different schools of thought on Sunday warned of street protest if the killer of a girl student of a seminary was not arrested.

“We consider this an act of terrorism, as the assailant followed a group of girl students after they left their seminary and opened indiscriminate fire, leaving one of them dead. The incident has created a sense of insecurity among parents,” JUI-F leader Mufti Kifayatullah told a press conference here.

Flanked by former provincial minister Syed Ahmad Hussain Shah, patron-in-chief of the district Seerat Committee Maulana Saeed Abdullah and chairman of the district peace committee Maulana Inayatur Rehman, he said the group of girl students of Jamia Fatimatu Zohra in Lambi Dehri was returning home when the assailant opened fire on them in a street, injuring Khamna Saeed, who later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital.

“The girl student was carrying books of Hadith in her hands. Her family had no enmity with anyone. How could anyone target and kill her?” he questioned.

Mufti Kifayatullah, who is also a former MPA and a member of the central committee of Wafaqul Madaris Al-Arabia Pakistan, said a delegation of clerics met the district police officer and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.
