LARKANA: Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) secretary general Dr Safdar Ali Abbasi and Functional League leaders Moazzam Ali Abbasi and Barrister Kazim Ali Abbasi have condemned the killing of five people, four of them members of one family, in Ratodero.

Five men were gunned down in a targeted attack at a shop on the outskirts of Ratodero on Saturday, police said.

They identified the deceased as Rajab Ali Ghanghro, his three sons — Riaz Ali Ghanghro, Qurban Ali Ghanghro and Bilawal Ghanghro — and passer-by Abdullah Brohi.

The police said that the incident stemmed from an old dispute between two factions of the Ghanghro community over ownership of agricultural land.

They said that assailants riding on a motorbike emerged at the shop and sprayed a volley of bullets and rode away.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, the GDA secretary general and other leaders said the killings in broad daylight showed that the police and the Sindh government had failed, and that peace in Sindh had been destroyed. They noted that four people had been shot dead in a firing on a car in Larkana’s Lahori Mohalla only a few days earlier.

“If no citizen is safe, what is the police’s responsibility? Is the police’s duty only to serve government representatives?” they asked.
