KARACHI: A young woman was shot dead and her daughter was injured in Lasbela near Gurumandir on Sunday, according to police.

They added that Gul Andam, 35, was killed and her nine-year-old daughter Nasreen wounded inside their apartment in Filmistan Tower.

Jamshed Quarters police SHO Imran Afridi said that the victim’s husband Roohuddin told the police that he had just left home to purchase vegetables from a market when someone entered the house and carried out the attack.

The officer said the injured girl was taken to the Aga Khan University Hospital, where in her initial statement, she said that a neighbour from their previous residence had carried out the killing.

The body was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said the deceased sustained two firearm wounds to head and the lower abdomen.

The SHO said the initial probe showed that the victim hailed from Afghanistan and the family had been living in the Lasbela area for the last few months. They were planning to move to Canada when the tragedy struck.

The officer opined that the incident might be an outcome of some personal enmity.
