ISLAMABAD: The World Peace Jirga Programme (WPJP) has stressed strengthening the traditional Jirga system and advancing the establishment of community-based committees at both national and international levels to resolve disputes.

The WPJP held a high-level meeting on business promotion, peace, and development.

The event brought together key stakeholders to discuss national unity, conflict resolution, and economic investment opportunities across Pakistan. Led by World Peace Jirga Program Chairman Rayatullah Khan, widely known as Khan Baba, and Women Peace Jirga Programme Chairperson Sadia Khan, the forum highlighted the role of local dialogue mechanisms in fostering long-term stability.

The organisers emphasised that reviving and modernising the jirga network provides an essential grassroots platform for reconciliation, social development, and economic growth.

During the session, Rayatullah Khan shared insights from his extensive voluntary service alongside local communities and security forces during past counter-militancy operations in Swat.

Beyond conflict resolution, a major segment of the seminar was dedicated to Pakistan’s economic potential, specifically focusing on gold exploration and mining ventures.

Participants discussed investment frameworks for natural resources and productive sectors, noting that targeted development in agriculture, livestock, tourism, and small-scale industries could generate mass employment.

The participants agreed that integrating economic empowerment with community-based dispute resolution remains vital for achieving sustainable peace and prosperity nationwide.
