BAJAUR: Residents of various areas of Salarzai tehsil agreed here the other day on multiple measures to maintain peace in the region.

The measures were adopted at a jirga held at a local school in Tali area, which was attended by scores of elders and youths.

According to a statement, the participants discussed the prevailing law and order and adopted concrete measures to ensure peace in the region amid current circumstances.

The statement issued to the media said the participants stressed the need for strong unity among local residents to preserve the hard-earned peace in the area.

Besides collective and well-organised efforts, the participants also emphasised the need for an effective monitoring system in the region to keep a close watch on anti-peace elements, the statement added.

It said it was collectively decided at the jirga to introduce a well-planned night watch system by local inhabitants to prevent any unpleasant incident by anti-peace elements.

As per the decision, the night watch system will take effect immediately and will continue until further decision in which all the residents will participate on a rotational basis.

According to the statement, it was also decided that the entry of non-locals into the area at night would be banned after 10pm.

However, it noted that outsiders coming for emergency work after 10pm must contact a responsible person from the region before entering, warning that those entering the area in violation of the advisory will be responsible for the consequences.

The statement further mentioned that the jirga had authorised shopkeepers in the Tali locality to keep weapons with them during daytime for self-defence.

The jirga concluded with a resolve that elders, youths and all residents would make joint efforts to maintain unity, ensure peace in the region and protect people’s lives and infrastructure, the statement added.
