KHYBER: The station house officers and their subordinates performed official duties and entertained complaints on Tuesday despite an announcement by All Fata Former Khasadar Force Committee that the police would neither register first information reports (FIRs) nor maintain the roznamcha (daily diary) as part of its strategy to pressure the government to accept their demands.
It was business as usual at almost all police stations across the Khyber tribal district as the officials attended their offices and carried out routine work.
The SHOs, however, insisted that they would abide by the decision taken by their protesting seniors.
Information gathered from police stations in Jamrud, Landi Kotal and Bara revealed that the SHOs and their subordinates attended offices and performed official duties.
On Monday, the protesting Khasadar committee announced a boycott of official responsibilities.
It had established a protest camp at the historical Bab-i-Khyber in Jamrud for the last two weeks, demanding a proper service structure on the pattern of the one in place for the province’s regular police force.
A protesting policeman said they wanted authorities to fulfil their promises about pension, promotion and seniority but they’re not considered part of the police force despite the merger of the Khasadar Force with the police seven years ago.
“The only difference we have felt from being converted into police is the formal uniform. The rest of the promised perks and privileges have yet to be given to us,” he told Dawn.
