QUETTA: Two Afghan nationals were shot dead by unknown armed men in the Sariab area of the provincial capital.

Police officials said the armed men opened indiscriminate fire when the two Afghans were passing through the area near Sheikh Zayed hospital on Monday night, killing both on the spot.

The deceased were close companions of a former commander of the Afghan National Army, Baseer Achakzai, who migrated to Quetta a few years after the takeover of Afghanistan by Taliban.

The police officials said they were investigating the incident. Another former commander of the Afghan National Army was also gunned down by unknown armed men in Quetta last month, while four Afghan nationals were killed by unidentified armed men two weeks ago.
