Bulleh Shah Urs from tomorrow

KASUR: The 269th annual Urs of great Sufi poet Hazrat Baba Bulleh Shah will begin here on Thursday (tomorrow) and continue for three days, concluding on Aug 29.

According to the Punjab Auqaf Department, the Urs will commence on Aug 27 and attract devotees from across the country and abroad, who will visit the shrine to offer Fateha and pay homage to the renowned mystic poet of the subcontinent.

The district administration has announced a local holiday on Saturday (Aug 29).

The three-day spiritual and cultural celebrations will include the ghusl of the shrine, Mehfil-i-Sama, Naat Khawani, recitation of Bulleh Shah’s poetry, speeches, presentation of research-based theses on his life and poetry, Mehfil-i-Mushaira, dhamal and a Heer Waris Shah singing competition.

District Police Officer Aftab Ahmed Phullarwan said on Tuesday that foolproof security arrangements had been made to protect the lives and property of devotees attending the Urs.

Deputy Commissioner Asif Raza also visited the shrine on Tuesday to review arrangements and issued instructions regarding cleanliness at the venue. He said officials from the municipal committee, Auqaf Department, Lesco, health department, Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence would remain on standby to facilitate devotees.

Religious Affairs Committee Chairman Muhammad Latif Qadri said arrangements for ‘langar’ had been finalised. He added that shelter and clean washrooms would be provided to devotees arriving from far-flung areas.
