QUETTA: Security forces killed five terrorists and wounded several others during an intelligence-based operation in Panjgur on Thursday under Operation Raddul Fitna 3, while separate attacks on a police station, a tehsil office and a check dam were reported from different parts of Balochistan.

According to security forces, intelligence had been received about the movement of terrorists planning an attack in the Killi Suran area of Panjgur.

Five terrorists were killed during the operation while several others were wounded, they said.

A large quantity of weapons, ammunition and other equipment was also recovered. According to security forces, the slain terrorists had been involved in robberies, extortion, kidnapping for ransom, targeted killings and attacks in Panjgur and surrounding areas.

Security forces said operations under Raddul Fitna 3 would continue as part of efforts to eliminate militant threats and restore security in the region.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended the security forces for thwarting the “nefarious designs” of terrorists affiliated with Fitna al-Hindustan, according to a statement issued by his ministry.

“The successful operations of the security forces against enemies of peace in Balochistan are commendable,” he said.

Police station, tehsil office attacked

Separately, armed men attacked a police station in Pishin and a tehsil office in Bolan and blew up a small check dam in Sanjavi on Thursday, prompting provincial authorities to put police stations and other government departments across Balochistan on high alert.

According to official sources, armed men travelling in vehicles entered Saranan bazaar in Pishin district and surrounded the local police station.

They entered the building, took police personnel hostage and ransacked official records.

The attackers later planted explosives at different points inside the police station before bringing the police personnel out of the building and detonating the explosives.

“Almost the entire building was destroyed in the powerful blast, which took place in the presence of a large number of people,” sources said, adding that the armed men remained outside the police station until the explosives went off.

Officials said no one was killed or injured, although the police station was badly damaged. Windowpanes of nearby buildings were shattered and cracks developed in some walls.

The attackers fled the area in their vehicles after the incident, taking away a police vehicle and some other items.

In another incident, armed men attacked a tehsil office in the Khatan area of Bolan and set official records on fire.

Reports from Sanjavi in northern Balochistan said armed men also blew up a small check dam after planting explosives at the site. “The dam was dry due to the absence of rain in its catchment areas,” an official said.
