HARIPUR: The cabinet members of District Bar Association Haripur here on Thursday expressed their unequivocal and resolute support for the longstanding demand of creation of Hazara province and stressed the need for completion of the process without further delay.

At a special meeting of cabinet members of the District Bar Association Haripur, held with Asad Saeed Khan, president of the district bar association, in the chair, discussed in detail the current countrywide debate on new provinces and termed it a timely move to address the demand of carving out new administrative units across the country, especially the Hazara province in KP.

“Hazara is not merely a geographical territory but it is the identity, heritage, history, culture and collective voice of the tribes of Hazara rather than a single linguistic community,” speakers said, adding that no individual political party or a group has the right to decide whether the Hazarawals were entitled to demand a separate province or otherwise.

But, they said, the people of Hazara had proved at several occasions in the past particularly during Pakistan’s referendum of July 1947 and later at the time of renaming of province in 2010 that they were free to decide their future in accordance with the will of majority.

The members of District Bar Association Haripur further called upon all the bar associations across Hazara to rise above individual and institutional differences and come forward with a united, principled and determined voice for establishment of the Hazara province.

“We urge all bar associations, lawyers, civil society representatives and stakeholders of Hazara to join hands, formulate a joint strategy and take this issue forward at every constitutional, legal, democratic and political forum,” speakers said.

The District Bar Association Haripur reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the cause of Hazara province and called for unity, collective action and an organised movement by all bar associations of Hazara to advance the legitimate demand.
