MANSEHRA: The district administration on Thursday allowed tourists to travel to Saiful Muluk Lake after revoking its weeklong notification banning all recreational activities at the fairy-tale destination, fearing landslides and cloudbursts during the monsoon rains.

“The deputy commissioner, through a fresh order, has allowed travel to Saiful Muluk Lake under standard operating procedures put in place for the safety of visitors,” Assistant Commissioner Hasrat Khan told journalists.

The traders in Kaghan had taken out a rally on Wednesday to seek lifting of the ban. “Now weather conditions are normal that’s why the district administration, in light of a report submitted by local civil agency, has revoked its earlier order,” Mr Khan said. According to the notification, tourists will be allowed to travel to Saiful Muluk Lake from 9:30am to 4pm.

“Naran police will enforce the schedule so that nobody can proceed before the prescribed time or remain at the destination after the closing time,” the order said.

The order also empowered police to take immediate action and close the artery connecting Naran with Saiful Muluk Lake if weather conditions deteriorated or there was a threat of landslide or cloudburst in the high-altitude areas of the valley.
