FM radio licence for Gilgit

Published July 19, 2006

GILGIT, July 18: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) granted on Tuesday its first licence to a company, Digital Effects, for establishing FM radio stations in Gilgit. “Pemra will like to issue more licences in the region but only one application for FM radio in Gilgit was received and the licence was given,” the executive member of Pemra Shahid Hamayun said.

He said the Pemra jurisdiction was extended to the four provinces and AJK and not to N. Areas but after approval from the Prime Minister, they were able to grant licenses for setting up FM radio stations in the region.—Correspondent
