Lawmakers outraged by killing of kidnap victim’s father
QUETTA: Treasury and opposition members in the Balochistan Assembly on Wednesday expressed strong outrage over the failure to arrest those accused of killing Asma Jattak’s father, uncle and fiancé, and kidnapping her.
A day earlier, unidentified men shot dead Inayatullah Jattak, father of the woman who was kidnapped two years ago.
Ministers, opposition leaders and other lawmakers staged a walkout from the house in protest and demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the killings and kidnapping. Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, who was presiding over the session, directed the provincial police chief, the Kalat region DIG and the Khuzdar SSP to arrest the suspects named in three FIRs within 48 hours and submit a progress report to the assembly.
JUI-F MPA Mir Zabit Reki from Washuk raised the issue on a point of order and said that despite the passage of a significant amount of time, no progress had been made in the case of Ms Jattak, who was kidnapped while her fiancé, uncle, and now her father had been killed.
He demanded a transparent investigation into the murder and urged the government to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Provincial Minister Haji Ali Madad Jattak said her family had been subjected to harassment for nearly one and a half years. He said her fiance was killed, the family repeatedly received threats and Ms Jattak was later abducted.
Opposition Leader Mir Younas Aziz Zehri joined the walkout, declaring that if the killers were not arrested, the chief minister and the home minister would be responsible.
