ISLAMABAD: After a long break of five months, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday opened its Central Secretariat in Islamabad and held meetings of different party wings.

The office, located in G-8, was once the most crowded and focused buildings but the Capital Development Authority (CDA) partially demolished and sealed the office in May 2024, citing building bylaw violations and state-land encroachments. Later, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered the CDA to unseal the premises.

PTI Deputy General Secretary Shaukat Basra, while talking to Dawn, said that although the court had ordered to unseal the premises, the Islamabad police never allowed holding meetings there.

“Whenever we tried to hold an event there, police reached before party leaders and derailed the programmes. So it was decided to hold most of the events at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House. As I am in Islamabad, on Thursday I decided to hold meetings at the Central Secretariat and called all wings of the party to reach there and hold meeting and devise a strategy to start movement in connection with August 5 when three years of imprisonment of Imran Khan will complete,” he said.

On the directive of Islamabad Regional President of PTI Amir Mughal, office-bearers of various PTI wings gathered at the party’s central office in G-8. They raised slogans in favour of Imran Khan and vowed to continue the movement until his release.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the party’s Islamabad chapter, including the main body, women, youth, traders, labour and student wings, as well as members of the Prison Welfare Committee. The delegation, led by Regional General Secretary Malik Amir, met senior PTI leaders Shaukat Basra and Naeem Panjutha.

Addressing the gathering, Shaukat Basra and Naeem Panjutha conveyed a message from PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, praising party workers for what they described as their steadfastness despite political pressure and legal cases.

They said the party would observe nationwide protests on Aug 5 against incarceration of Imran Khan.
