TOBA TEK SINGH: As many as 17lawyers from Shorkot were booked under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) on Tuesday for allegedly attacking and torturing a tehsildar.

According to the first information report, complainant (Shorkot Tehsildar Imran Akram) alleged that advocate Hassan Raza Bhawana, nine nominated accomplices, and seven unidentified lawyers forcibly entered his office on Monday, locked the door from inside, and severely assaulted him and his reader, Najamul Hassan.

The FIR, registered under Section 7 of the ATA and Sections 353, 186, 506 and 382 of the Pakistan Penal Code, states that the suspects took away files related to two cases and allegedly forced the tehsildar to sign documents against his will. The complainant said people outside the office alerted police by calling the emergency helpline, after which a police team arrived and rescued them. No arrests had been made till the filing of this report.

Meanwhile, lawyers observed a complete strike in Jhang, Shorkot, Ahmadpur Sial, Toba Tek Singh, Gojra, Kamalia and Pir Mahal to protest the registration of the ATA case against fellow lawyers.

FIRE: Four members of a family sustained serious burn injuries after a fire broke out in their house near Sabir Chowk on Shahid Shaheed Road in Shorkot on Tuesday.

Rescue officials said the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit and was brought under control by firefighters. The injured were shifted to the THQ Hospital, Shorkot.

They were identified as house owner Muhammad Arshad (52), his wife Shahnaz Kausar (50), son Muhammad Zeeshan (30) and daughter Ayesha Bibi (16).

In a separate incident, a 45-year-old woman was electrocuted during rain at Mouza Sabar Kalaira on Sargodha Road in Jhang.

According to Rescue 1122, Kalsoom Bibi accidentally came into contact with a live electric wire while attempting to switch off a pedestal fan in her house.

ACE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested a city revenue patwari and his two private assistants (munshis) for allegedly accepting a bribe during a raid in Toba Tek Singh.

The raid was led by ACE Deputy Director Muhammad Sarfraz Warraich under the supervision of Civil Judge Al Basit Mudassar Ali. The arrested suspects were identified as Patwari Azeem Sarwar and his assistants, Muratab Ali and Ahsan.

Officials recovered Rs20,000, which the suspects had allegedly received from complainant Muhammad Zubair of Chak 323-JB for transferring inherited agricultural land in his name.

In another operation, the same ACE team arrested Head Constable Bilal Ahmad for allegedly accepting a Rs20,000 bribe from Noor Asif of Chak 269-GB to dispose of a complaint lodged against him.

RAPE: A teenager was allegedly raped at Chak 338 JB, Gojra, on Tuesday.

As per Nawan Lahore police FIR registered under section 376 of PPC, complainant ‘N’ claimed that her son was overpowered by suspect ‘R’ and raped. Police said raids were underway to arrest the suspect.
