RAWALPINDI: Deputy Commissioner retired Capt Nadeem Nasir on Monday directed the assistant commissioner to identify a suitable land and submit feasibility reports for the construction of parking plazas in Raja Bazaar, Commercial Market and Jinnah Park area, as well as for the establishment of a Sahulat Bazaar.

The deputy commissioner was presiding over a meeting of the District Development Committee to review the progress of ongoing and proposed development schemes across the district.

The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Finance & Planning), Deputy Director Development, and officers of the relevant departments.

The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the status of key development projects and issued directions to ensure their timely completion.

He sought an immediate report on the Rawalpindi Mother and Child Hospital and also directed the authorities concerned to submit a report on resolving the water supply issue at the Rawat Tehsil Headquarters Hospital so that the hospital can be made fully functional at the earliest.

DC asks district govt to submit feasibility reports

The Punjab Saaf Pani Authority was directed to complete the mapping and geo-tagging of all functional and non-functional water filtration plants in the district and submit a comprehensive report without delay.

Emphasising the promotion of sports, the deputy commissioner sought a detailed report on the construction and rehabilitation of sports grounds in both urban and rural areas of Rawalpindi.

He directed the relevant departments to prepare proposals for improving and outsourcing school and college playgrounds so that these facilities can be opened to the public after school hours.

He also instructed all assistant commissioners to identify government and public welfare land in rural areas for the establishment of sport grounds.

He said that providing at least one quality sports ground in every rural union council is part of the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, enabling young people from rural communities to show their talent at national and international levels.

The meeting also reviewed the proposed tourism project at Mahota Dam, and the deputy commissioner directed the Tourism Department to submit a detailed report.

He further ordered immediate preparation of cost estimates and a report for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Chakri Road.

Regarding the longstanding sewerage issue at Biscuit Factory Chowk, the departments concerned were instructed to prepare and submit a feasibility report for a permanent solution.

Directions were also issued to the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) and the Chief Officer District Council to immediately address sanitation and solid waste management issues in Union Councils 76 to 79, including the beautification scheme for Rehmatabad Graveyard Road.

Referring to his recent visit to Wah General Hospital, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Chief Executive Officer (Health) to take immediate measures to resolve the issues identified during the inspection.

In the education sector, he directed the authorities to prepare a practical plan for improving educational standards, strengthening teachers’ training, and enhancing transport facilities for special education schools.

The deputy commissioner also directed the assistant commissioners to identify suitable land and submit feasibility reports for the construction of a parking plaza in the Raja Bazaar–Commercial Market–Jinnah Park area, as well as for the establishment of a Sahulat Bazaar and a public park in Taxila and Wah. Mr Nasir reaffirmed that the district administration is committed to ensuring the timely completion of all development projects.
