ISLAMABAD, July 13: The Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) on Thursday named a 50-member strong athletics contingent for the 10th South Asian Games to be held next month at Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The AFP convened its selection committee meeting on Thursday to pick up the squad which includes 30 men, 10 women and 10 officials, according to an AFP official.

He said the athletes were selected on the basis of performance in the two-day national open trials conducted at Jinnah Stadium, Pakistan Sports Complex, on Tuesday-Wednesday.

The trials were supervised by the AFP selection committee which comprised Brig Saleem Nawaz Malik (Convenor), Col (retd) Khalid Hussain, Col (retd) Mohammad Yahya, Capt Mehtab Ahmed, Salman Iqbal Buttt, Syed Habib Shah, Dr. Waqar Ahmed, Maj Mehmood Riaz, Ehtsham ul Haq and Mohammad Khalid Mahmood (secretary AFP).

The selected athletes will immediately undergo training at Jinnah Stadium, Pakistan Sports Complex, here before departure next month for Colombo where the 10th South Asian Games will be staged from Aug 18 to 28.
