KARACHI: A student of a private university was gunned down in a suspected targeted attack in Orangi Town early Wednesday morning, police said.

The Mominabad police said that Mohammed Huzaifa Siddiqi, 25, was returning to his home in Sector 4-F in his car when two assailants riding a motorbike opened fire and rode away. He suffered critical bullet wounds and died on the spot.

West Zone DIG Irfan Ali Baloch told Dawn that it appeared to be a targeted killing.

He recalled that the victim was also shot and wounded a few months ago and had survived that attack.

The DIG said investigators had got ‘some clues’ about the possible motives of the suspects and that police were working on them.

A murder case has been registered against unknown persons under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Mominabad police station on the complaint of the victim’s elder brother, Waleed Ahmed Siddiqi.

As per the FIR, the complainant said that he was at his home when he received a phone call from their driver, Waheed Rehman, stating that Huzaifa had been shot outside their house. He came out and saw that his brother was bleeding inside his car. They took him to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The complainant said that Huzaifa was a student at Iqra University. After varsity, he used to go to a fitness club in Clifton. He was returning from the club in a car and when he reached near his home, two assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on him and fled.
