SUKKUR: A youth was killed during a gun battle between two rival groups belonging to the Banglani community in a village falling within the limits of the Jamal police station in Kandhkot-Kashmore district on Monday.

The deceased youth was later identified as Adam Banglani.

A strong contingent of police was dispatched to the troubled village, where heavily armed rivals had taken up positions to attack each other. Firing from both sides was continuing intermittently till the last report came in.

The police were preparing to enter the village to collect the body and transport an unspecified number of wounded people to hospital.

The two Banglani groups are embroiled in a longstanding land dispute, according to locals. The gun battle forced residents of the area to remain indoors due to fear and panic.
