SWABI: Residents of Topi city during a protest demanded transfer of all medical staff of Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Topi for death of a woman allegedly due to reaction of an injection given to her at the hospital.
A protest took place on Friday night after the death of Malik Niaz Muhammad’s wife. Family members alleged that a doctor at the hospital administered an injection that triggered an adverse reaction, resulting in her death.
Addressing the protesters, Malik Niaz, the husband of the deceased and a former chairman of Neighbourhood Council Topi East, said that his wife had informed the doctor that the same injection had previously caused an adverse reaction and requested that it not be administered again. However, he alleged that the doctor proceeded to give her the injection, which, according to him, led to her death.
In reaction to people’s protest, Bacha Khan Teaching Hospital medical director has issued an office order, constituting a four members’ committee to investigate the incident.
The committee is headed by Dr Tariq Zubair, chairman, Department of Medicine and its other members are: Dr Arshad Jadoon, Dr Muhammad Wagar andSaeed Afsar, manager quality assurance.
The committee members were told toconduct a detailed review and clinical audit of the patient’s management and treatment at the emergency room; determine the circumstances and factors, if any, contributing to the unfortunate incident;identify any lapses or deficiencies in clinical management, procedures, or systems and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive measures to avoid recurrence of similar incidents in future.
The committee was directed to submit its enquiry report along with recommendations within one week from the date of issuance of the order.
