SUKKUR: The Sukkur District and Sessions Court has ordered registration of a case against a nine-member police team over killing of a man in, what was described as ‘encounter’ on Oct 16, 2025.

The police team headed by the then SHO of the Pannu Aqil police station, Shakoor Lako, had claimed that they had killed a suspected criminal, Jehangir Jakhrani, in the police encounter.

The police claim was contested by the bereaved family and an application against the police team was submitted in the court.

After hearing the prosecution and defence and examining the evidence, the District and Sessions Judge, Allah Bachayo Gabol, had reserved his judgement, which was pronounced on Saturday.

According to the judgement, the encounter was found to be suspicious and unlawful in the light of the available evidence and material placed before the court.

Defence counsel Murtaza Korai told media personnel that the court had examined a report submitted by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). He said that the court directed the FIA that in accordance with the applicable legal provisions, a criminal case be registered against SHO Shakoor Lako and eight other policemen allegedly involved in the incident.
