LAKKI MARWAT: Awami National Party and Jamaat-i-Islami have begun holding corner meetings to mobilise their workers for the upcoming local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Jamaat’s Lakki Marwat chapter held a meeting here on Tuesday with the party’s southern KP chapter deputy emir Haji Akhtar Ali Shah in the chair.

The participants reiterated their resolve to earn people’s trust through public service, honest leadership and positive political role. They said JI would participate in the local government polls with full enthusiasm and in an organised and effective manner.

They also expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the district, broken roads, non-payment of gas royalty, political interference in government institutions and increasing corruption.

They said that the party would establish active political councils at the district and village council levels to effectively resolve public issues.

Meanwhile, the tehsil chapter of ANP held a meeting in Banda Daud Shah town of Karak district on Tuesday, where the party’s office-bearers and workers discussed organisational matters, election strategy and poll drive.

ANP district general secretary Ayub Sultan Bandiwan, former district president Wakil Usman Khan, tehsil president Intikhab Alam, information secretary Adnan Parhar, district election member Yaqub Khan, provincial council member Jalil Agha and others were in attendance.

The participants said though the poll schedule had not yet been issued, the ANP had decided to mobilise its workers. They stressed that resolving people’s problems was directly linked to the devolution of powers at the grassroots level.

MEETING: Elders and police on Tuesday vowed to improve liaison and launch joint efforts to eliminate terrorism and establish peace in Karak district.

The consensus was shown at a meeting held in the Karak Police Lines.

District Police Officer Imran Khan and other police officials, elders and members of Amankot Gurgari Peace Committee were in attendance.

The participants agreed to launch more effective and integrated efforts to curb crime and improve law and order in the mineral-rich district.

An elder said mutual cooperation was key to making offensives against criminals and enemies of peace result-oriented.

Other elders said that they would use their influence to persuade people to fully cooperate with the police and play an effective role in establishing lasting peace in the region.

The district police officer said providing people with a crime-free environment was the police’s top priority.
