Four car snatchers killed in ‘encounter’

TOBA TEK SINGH: Four alleged car snatchers were killed while a police ASI was injured in an alleged encounter with the Roshanwala Police in Faisalabad on Saturday night.

In his FIR, Roshanwala SHO Shahid Pervez claimed that he was informed that four suspects had snatched a car from a citizen travelling between Safdarabad area of Sheikhupura and Samundri in Faisalabad. It said that he and his team erected a checkpost on Samundri Road and they tried to stop the said car. However, he claimed that the suspects opened indiscriminate fire on the policemen. As a result, ASI Muhammad Waris was seriously wounded.

The FIR further claimed that the car rammed into the outer wall of the police station and all four suspects were injured in the exchange of fire. It claimed that three suspects died instantly while one was shifted to the DHQ Hospital where he too succumbed to his injuries.

They were identified as Ramzan Saif, Asif Yaqub, Waris Ali and Tanweer Ahmad. The wounded ASI was also shifted to the hospital, while the stolen car and illicit arms found in the car were taken into custody.

RAID: A Faisalabad FIA team led by SHO Ajmal Hussain conducted a targeted raid against elements involved in financial fraud through illegal banking activities.

A press release on Sunday claimed that during the operation, two accused, both named Muhammad Ramzan, were arrested. It claimed that they were accused of opening fake bank accounts for illegal financial transactions and withdrawals. FIA claimed that the raid was conducted based on intelligence information, which identified an organised network involved in banking fraud.

The FIA claimed to have recovered Rs350,000 in cash, mobile phones, ATM/credit cards and other digital evidence from the possession of the arrested accused.

FIA claimed that initial investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly using various banking applications, around 84 of clone accounts created in the names of different citizens, digital mobile banking accounts and communication platforms to fraudulently transfer funds and operate multiple bank accounts. Following the recovery and initial investigation, an FIR had been registered against them and further investigations were underway.

FOLK MUSIC: A folk music night was organised by the Faisalabad Punjab Council of Arts in which renowned folk singers Ahmed Ali Lonewala and Aslam Lohar performed.

Director Maqbool Ahmed Malik, Deputy Director Imran Raza, Dr Qamar Bukhari and other literary personalities attended as special guests. The traditional culture, folk music and regional heritage of Punjab were highlighted during the event. The artists entertained the audience with their beautiful songs and paid tribute to the cultural traditions of Punjab.

FIRE: A fire broke out due to friction in the tyres of a passenger bus near Chak Jhumra on the M-4 motorway on Sunday.

According to officials, patrolling officials immediately stopped the moving bus and safely evacuated all 49 passengers, bus crew and their belongings. He added that police personnel took immediate action with the help of fire extinguishers and brought the fire under control.

ACCIDENT: One person died and three others of his family were injured in a collision between a pick up and a motorcycle.

According to Rescue 1122, the accident occurred due to speeding on Makoana Bypass on the Jaranwala Road in Faisalabad.

The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Muhammad Ikram, who died on the spot. His wife Mehwish and three children six-month-old Iman Ikram, Talha (6) and Zainab (4) received serious injuries. They were shifted to the DHQ Hospital.

In another incident, four persons of the same family were injured after their speeding motorcycle fell on the Toba Road. All the injured were shifted to the Jhang DHQ Hospital and were identified as Muhammad Naeem, his wife Iqra Bibi, son Abdul Hanan and daughter Horain Fatima.

SUICIDE: Two persons allegedly committed suicide on Sunday in separate incidents in Khanewal and Pirmahal.

In the first incident, a young man allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling fan in his house after a quarrel with his parents over a monetary issue in Bihari Colony of Mian Channu in Khanewal district. He was identified as Muhammad Amer (25).

In Chak 684/25 GB of Pirmahal tehsil, a youth allegedly committed suicide due to unknown reasons. Police said that Shoaib Akhtar (19) took poison and when his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the Pirmahal THQ Hospital where he died.

MURDER: A youth allegedly murdered his grandfather in Chak 434 JB of Gojra tehsil on Sunday.

Police claimed that Muhammad Asghar (80) and his grandson Muhammad Hamza exchanged harsh words over an inheritance dispute over farmland. Police claimed the youth opened fire on his grandfather and he was critically wounded. He was being shifted to the Gojra THQ Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

Police claimed the accused managed to escape and the Gojra Saddar Police were conducting raids to arrest him.

SEED POLICY: University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali has congratulated National Food Security and Research Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, the National Seed Development and Regulatory Authority (NSDRA), and the Green Pakistan Initiative (GPI) on the approval of the National Seed Policy.

In a statement describing it as a landmark achievement, he said that it would transform Pakistan’s seed sector, enhance agricultural productivity, and contribute significantly to national food and nutritional security.
