Two drown in sea, as many in Malir river

KARACHI: Four persons, including two minor boys, drowned in separate incidents in the city on Sunday, officials said.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson said that Maisam Abbas, 20, and Huzaifa, 18, were swept away by strong waves at Hawkesbay.

They said that Abbas died and his body was retrieved from the sea while Huzaifa was rescued in an unconscious condition and shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.

In another incident at Hawkesbay, 17-year old Yusuf Naveed drowned in the sea. The body could not be recovered till late at night.

Mauripur SHO Aslam Khan said thousands of picnickers came to the Hawkesbay and Sandspit beaches on weekends. He said so far, the district administration had not imposed a ban on swimming in the sea. In the third incident, two minor boys drowned in the Malir river on Sunday evening.

Rescue-1122 spokesperson Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan said that Fahad Husain, 12, and Salar Imtiaz, 10, were taking a dip at Korangi causeway when they drowned. Rescue workers recovered their bodies.
