BAJAUR: The Bajaur police on Saturday claimed to have resolved a blind murder case involving the principal of a government high school by arresting his son as the prime suspect.
According to a statement issued from the DPO office, Mohammad Shah, 59, principal of a high school in Mamound tehsil, was killed near his home in Khar town on April 15.
The statement said the police investigation relied on statements from the deceased’s relatives and neighbours, leading to the conclusion that Shah was killed by his son, Bashir Ahmad.
Following the murder, the police launched efforts for his arrest, but the suspect went into hiding.
The statement, however, noted that after several weeks of sustained work using modern investigative methods, an investigation team led by DSP Khar Saidur Rehman traced the suspect to a secret location and arrested him.
The suspect confessed to the crime during initial interrogation, the statement added.
Ahmad not only confessed to killing his father but also disclosed that he committed the murder after the deceased refused to give him his share of both commercial and agricultural properties.
Police sources told Dawn that Shah, who was set to retire from service about six months later, owned dozens of shops in Khar Bazaar and large tracts of commercial land across the district.
It stated that the deceased had two wives and was allegedly denying shares to the children of his first wife due to big differences following his second marriage several months ago.
The sources disclosed that a jirga had intervened six months ago after a clash between Shah and his first wife’s children, where the deceased had promised he would distribute his property according to Islamic law to resolve the dispute peacefully.
The sources, however, said that the deceased never intended to give any share to the children of his first wife, who were living in a separate home that ultimately led to the murder.
