Oil sales plunge 23pc in May

KARACHI: Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) recorded sales of 1.17 million tonnes in May, down 23 per cent year-on-year and 14pc month-on-month due to higher fuel prices.

This takes total oil sales for 11MFY26 to 14.9m tonnes, reflecting a 1pc YoY increase compared to 14.8mn tonnes in 11MFY25, Myesha Sohail of Topline Securities said.

In May, petrol prices increased by 59pc YoY to an average of Rs402 per litre from Rs253 last year. Diesel prices increased to an average of Rs401 per litre, up 57pc YoY. She said petrol sales fell 12pc YoY, while flattish MoM, decreasing to 617,000 tonnes in May. However, July-May FY26 sales inched up by 2pc YoY to 7.028m tonnes.

High-speed diesel (HSD) sales plunged 32pc YoY and 17pc MoM to 455,000 tonnes. HSD sales crawled up by 1pc to 6.354m tonnes in 11MFY26.

Furnace oil (FO) sales tumbled 64pc YoY and 79pc MoM to 29,000 tonnes, while 11MFY26 sales dipped by 17pc to 558,000 tonnes, Myesha Sohail said.
