LAHORE: The Punjab government on Tuesday extended the ban imposed under Section 144 on flying drones in open areas across the province for another 30 days.

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home department, the complete ban on outdoor drone operations remains in force throughout Punjab. The restriction has been maintained in view of security concerns.

The spokesperson clarified that the limited use of small drones would be allowed during events held inside halls and marquees. However, event organisers would be responsible for ensuring the safe operation of drones at indoor functions.

According to the notification issued by the Home department, intelligence and law enforcement agencies had been exempted from the ban.

The spokesperson stated that public safety, maintenance of law and order, and protection of property remain the Punjab government’s top priorities.

The restriction has been imposed by the Punjab home secretary under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. As per the notification, the ban on drone operations across Punjab will remain effective until June 24.
